ICPSR Data Deposit Inventory

Required Materials

• Data files in one of the following accepted formats:

  • ASCII with SAS and/or SPSS data definition statements
  • SAS Transport
  • SPSS Portable
  • Stata

• Documentation files including at least one of the following:

  • Codebook
  • Data Collection Instrument(s) (Electronic files are preferred.)
  • Data Dictionary

  Documentation files should be submitted in one or more of the following accepted formats:

  • MicroSoft Word
  • MicroSoft Excel
  • DDI XML (See Data Documentation Initiative (DDI))
  • ASCII
  • Paper

  A PDF is acceptable if the original source document is not available.

Optional Materials

• Summary Statistics
  Frequency Distributions
  Means
  Etc.

• Bibliography of publications pertaining to data

• Printout of first five and last five records in each separate data file

• Project summary or other description of the project

• Readme File

• An inventory of files submitted
