The submission of datasets in the form of SAS transport, SPSS portable, or Stata files is strongly encouraged. ASCII files are acceptable but must be accompanied by data definition statements for a statistical software package. Datasets in other formats (e.g., Chip, Microcase) may also be accepted. Please contact ICPSR prior to submission.
All identifying information should be removed from the records to ensure confidentiality.
All instructional exercises and codebooks should be submitted as ASCII, Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, or Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Documentation should meet the standards for ICPSR submission as outlined in the Guide to Social Science Data Preparation and Archiving, 3rd Edition (PDF 1.3MB).
The ICPSR electronic deposit procedure facilitates the secure upload of files via a Web browser and establishes the terms and conditions of the data transfer.
The form also enables the depositor to describe the data collection being deposited. The depositor may designate others to access and add information to the form if desired. The form was designed to permit the depositor to save his/her progress through the form so that it does not need to be completed in one session.
The form is estimated to take about 15 to 30 minutes to complete. If you encounter any issues with the form or have questions, please contact deposit@icpsr.umich.edu.
Faculty and students are encouraged to submit their favorite Web sites that focus on teaching resources for undergraduate and graduate education. Suggestions for additional links that include materials that can be used in the classroom should be emailed to Ed Nelson at ednelson@csufresno.edu with the subject "Teaching Links/ICPSR".
